Reccy
What is Reccy?
Helping renters make better informed decisions
Our mission
Our aim is to help renters make better-informed decisions by providing a trusted platform where people can share genuine renting experiences.
By increasing transparency, we hope to reward good landlords, encourage higher standards across the rental market and help future renters avoid unpleasant surprises.
Our journey
Reccy exists to help renters make better-informed decisions by sharing honest experiences of the places they've lived.
We're at the beginning of that journey, so you won't find reviews for every property just yet. We're starting by building coverage in Manchester, one review at a time.
Every review makes Reccy more useful. By sharing your experience, you're helping future renters understand what a property is really like before they commit to living there.
Lived somewhere recently? Help us get started. Your experience could make a real difference to someone else's next move.
How it works
There are three ways to contribute to our platform.
- Leave a review by searching for your relevant property. Once the details are filled in you can submit for publishing.
- Property not listed? If your property isn't automatically listed, you can manually input details through the ‘Property not listed?’ button. This will go through a process of verification before being published as normal.
- Help spread the word. Encourage friends, former housemates and other renters to leave their own experiences and contribute to the growing platform.
Trust and privacy
To help build a reliable platform, we:
- Require users to verify their email address before submitting reviews.
- Offer optional location verification as an additional trust signal.
- Remove personal information and abusive content.
- Provide users with the ability to report reviews they believe are inaccurate or inappropriate.
Reviews are published anonymously and your name or email address will never be displayed alongside your review.
In addition to the above, we only collect the information we need to operate and keep the platform safe and trustworthy. This typically includes:
- Your email address (used to create and secure your account)
- Your name, if you choose to provide it when creating an account
- The reviews you submit
- Basic account information, such as when your account was created and your email verification status
FAQs
1. Why are there so few reviews on Reccy at the moment?
Reccy is a new platform, and we're working to build up reviews one property and one area at a time. We're starting in Manchester, and every contribution helps make the platform more useful for future renters.
2. What if I can't find my property?
If your property isn't listed, you can use the 'Property not listed?' option to submit its details. We'll carry out the relevant verification before it is added to the platform.
3. Are reviews anonymous?
Yes. Reviews are published anonymously, and your name and email address are not displayed alongside your review.
4. Can my landlord find out that I've left a review?
Your review is published without your name or email address. However, the details of an experience may sometimes make a reviewer recognisable to someone familiar with the circumstances, so avoid including personal information that could identify you or others.
5. How do you know reviews are genuine?
We require email verification before reviews can be submitted and offer optional location verification as an additional trust signal. We also provide a way to report reviews that may be inaccurate or inappropriate. These measures help build trust, although no verification system can guarantee that every statement is accurate.
6. What should I include in my review?
We encourage renters to share specific, honest experiences of living in the property. This might include damp and mould, energy efficiency and bills, safety, noise levels, maintenance and the general condition of the property.
7. Can I leave a negative review?
Yes. Reccy is intended to provide a space for honest feedback, including negative experiences. Reviews should be factual, fair and based on your own experience, without abusive language or personal information.
